Summer Camp 2008


Indian Camp

Campers cultivate a respect for Native American Heritage through games, crafts, music, storytelling, and observations of nature.  A full size tipi serves as home-base for this fun-filled camp!

Preschool- 4 years old
(campers must turn 4 by 2/1/2008)

Preschool- 5 & 6 years old
(campers must have attended 1 year of preschool or kindergarten)
June 9-13

School Age- Rising 2nd & 3rd grade

*Preschool camps are limited to 12 campers per session. 
*School Age camps are limited to 15.

Civil War Soldier Camp
Costumed Interpreters bring to life the experiences of Civil War soldiers in camp and on the battlefield.  Campers will participate in military drills, weapons demonstrations, games, activities and experience elements of a soldier's life.  Campers study and reenact battle tactics to help them understand Civil War battles and their outcomes.  On the last day of camp all campers will fire a reproduction rifle.

Archeology Camp
Ready to dig for the past?  This camp will take place on the site of Belle Meade's original slave quarter and will expose campers to methods and theories of American Archaeology.  Archaeologists and Belle Meade camp staff will lead campers in a mini-field school, set up an excavation unit, shovel, screen, bag, and process artifacts.  All tools and supplies will be provided.

Museum Theater Camp
Actors and Actresses Needed!  This unique experience allows campers to dig into the stories of the Harding and Jackson family that lived at Belle Meade Plantation.  Campers participate in theater games, learn stage movements, theater vocabulary, comic timing, character development and script writing.  On the last day of camp, campers will perform live for friends, family and the visiting public.  All costumes and props are provided.

School Age 9-14 years old

*Limited to 15 campers per session

Junior Docent Camp
This camp is designed for those with a strong interest in history and museums.  Campers take a "behind the scenes" look at how museums operate and learn the history of Belle Meade Plantation first hand from the Lead Interpreter.  By the end of the week friends and family are invited to come take a tour led by their camper.

CAMP FEES:
$175/per camper
(10% discount offered to siblings)
Camp fees include all programming supplies, games, activities, and a Campt T-shirt of your very own!  Costumes and props needed for Junior Docent, Musuem Theater and Archaeology Camp are also provided.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Cancellations made at least 2 weeks prior to your camp's opening day will be entitled to a full refund minus a $25 processing fee.
