Wedding Theme Ideas

Cory + Chris: September

Once you have your dream location booked for the wedding day, you begin the major task of “How can I convey who we are as a couple through our wedding and connect it to my venue for a cohesive theme?”

Cory and Chris really connected to their dream wedding and reception location at historic Belle Meade Plantation www.bellemeadeplantation.com with their simple, yet elegantly southern themed wedding in the early fall of Nashville, Tennessee. “I guess it all kind of started with the vintage southern feel of BMP, and that made it easy to go from there,” said Cory.  When asked about their theme, Cory stated that it was “Vintage. Gatsby. Colorful. Chic.” Anthropologie is one of her favorite retail stores, because of their amazing ability to create unique visual presentations. She said that her thought was “if Anthropologie had a wedding, what would it look like?” She succeeded and her favorite store would be proud.

Starting with the bridesmaids’ dresses…

At first glance one’s eye might be shocked to not see a standard solid color for the bridesmaids’ dresses. I personally want to hug her for stepping out a little and choosing something that the bridesmaids would totally wear again. This dress looks like something you could pick up from a boutique and wear to Steeplechase. And it should because Cory said that the dress was actually bought at the aforementioned favorite store, Antropologie. She also let the bridesmaids choose their own accessories to put with this super chic dress. By choosing something out of the ordinary, Cory was able to express her unique style while allowing her best gal pals to shine!

It was this dress and the love of the colors that was the total inspiration for the rest of the wedding as well. You can see the subtle nods to the cobalt-bluish purple, turquoise and yellow throughout in the themed invitations, flowers, aisle hangers, favor boxes, signs and place card pinwheels. It is the ability to carry off your theme right down to the tiniest degree that creates certain continuity for you, but it is the ability to carry off the fun factor throughout your Big Day that your guests will remember for years to come.

Check out Cory’s awesome wedding gown, headpiece and her cute “something blue”….a.k.a. her shoes! The most shocking detail in my book was the “C” for Cory & Chris that she meticulously aligned with buttons for her wedding cupcake stand topper. She was a major expert when it came to “do-it-yourself” ideas. I dub her current reigning “Queen of D.I.Y. Weddings” at Belle Meade Plantation to date!

Just like many brides who want to “Go Green” and use local resources, Cory was also considerate of the environment and the utilization of the Nashville roots of Belle Meade Plantation while designing the event. “We wanted it to be a joyous and fun reflection of who we are as a couple and we also tried to be conscious about the environmental aspect of things. All the baskets on the tables were ones we had and found at thrift stores. We made our own cloth napkins that we sent home with many of the guests and all the flowers were locally sourced, most from a family friend's backyard. The sunflowers were from a farm right outside of Nashville!”

Special thanks to Kate Murphy Photography www.katemurphyphotography.comblog for capturing our very special couple and sharing these moments with us. Kate put the couple at ease and really captured their essence through what most brides hail as photojournalism.

Thank you to Cory and Chris for letting us in on the inspiration for your Wedding Day! Congratulations on a wedding well done and best wishes in your new life together!
